Chelese Belmont: Senior College Admissions Counselor

Hi from Los Angeles!
Over the past 20 years, I’ve been a college admissions counselor, personal statement expert, test-prep teacher, private tutor, and leadership camp counselor. While studying U.S. History at UC Berkeley, I tutored high school students in writing and assisted them with college applications and essay composition. I also worked with junior high school students in after-school programs in Oakland as a mentor and tutor. After graduating from UC Berkeley with Honors (in three years), I got my Masters of Fine Arts in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School (Pace University) while continuing as a college essay specialist with Insight Education. I then moved to Los Angeles, where I privately tutored students in various AP topics and SAT Subject Tests. I also taught SAT prep classes and wrote practice curricula for the newly designed SAT, in addition to my college counseling work which began with Insight Education in 2006.
During my career as a college counselor, I have helped students from all types of backgrounds and experiences prepare applications and write personal statements that have gotten them into the Ivy League, the UC system, liberal arts colleges, Top-20/50/100 colleges and universities, HBCUs, and graduate and doctorate/doctoral programs. I have specializations in visual and performing arts, music, humanities, business, STEM, transfer, and graduate applications. I have also guided students on composing essays that have helped them land coveted internships and spots in competitive summer programs. My goal is always to help students navigate the admissions process with the least stress while guiding them on how to present themselves in the best and most authentic light. I work hard to meet students where they’re at and to elevate their applications to the best possible versions through a collaborative, encouraging partnership.
When I’m not helping kids reach their admissions goals, I work as an actress, screenwriter, and independent producer, pursuing my creative ambitions. I also love hiking, indoor rock climbing, baking, walking my dog, and spoiling my nieces and nephew!
